Margaret Peot is a painter, printmaker, and writer. She has exhibited at the Galleries at Saint Peter’s Church Gallery in the Citicorp Building, the Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latinoamericano, Cornelia Street Cafe, The Center for Book Arts, La Mama New Works Series, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, and other venues.
Margaret is the author of Alternative Art Journals: Explore Innovative Approaches to Collecting Your Creativity, a book driven by the concept that as we are all inspired in different ways, we can break free from the traditional sketchbook in favor of more unconventional approaches. Alternative Art Journals (North Light Books) will be released in September of 2012.
Margaret’s most recent book, The Successful Artist’s Career Guide: Finding Your Way in the Business of Art, published by North Light Books, contains interviews with other artists, personal anecdotes, worksheets and practical advice for making a living as a visual artist. Her book Make Your Mark: Explore Your Creativity and Discover Your Inner Artist (Chronicle Book) contains no-fail, no-drawing-necessary techniques designed to jump-start creativity. Make Your Mark made Library Journal’s Best How-To Books list of 2004.
Her book for kids, Inkblot: Drip, Splat and Squish Your Way to Creativity, published by Boyds Mills Press, received a starred review in School Library Journal, was awarded a Eureka! Silver Medal for non-fiction children’s books, and is on the Orbis Pictus Recommended Books list for 2012.
Margaret has been painting and dyeing costumes at Parsons-Meares, LTD since 1989 for Broadway theater (Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark, The Lion King, Wicked, Shrek The Musical, Spamalot and hundred of other projects), dance (San Francisco Ballet’s The Nutcracker, Pilobolus), television, film (Bram Stoker’s Dracula) and circus (Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey and The Big Apple Circus). She is a member of United Scenic Artists, and has taught costume painting at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
